How Does Menopause Affect Libido? Tips for Managing Changes in Sexual Desire





Menopause can affect libido in various ways due to hormonal changes in the body. Some women may experience a decrease in libido during menopause due to lower levels of and testosterone. Other factors such as vaginal dryness, hot flashes, and mood changes can also contribute to a reduced sex drive.


To address these changes and improve libido during menopause, consider the following strategies:

2. **Healthy lifestyle**: Maintain a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep to support overall well-being, which can positively impact libido.


3. **Stress management**: Practice relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation, or deep breathing to reduce stress and improve libido.


4. **Pelvic floor exercises**: Kegel exercises can help strengthen pelvic floor muscles, improve blood flow to the pelvic area, and enhance sexual pleasure.


5. **Hormone therapy**: Consult with a healthcare provider about hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to address hormonal imbalances that may be affecting libido.

8.** Set aside time: Schedule time for intimacy and add variety.. try new positions, times of the day.

Some women find that they had increased sexual desire following Menopause and this may be attributed to lowered anxiety of the fear of getting pregnant and having to use birth control, fewer child rearing responsibilities so have more time for their partner and intimacy. A sense of freedom and empowerment at having met menopause head on.
